Thursday, KVOE begins collecting names before we start collecting donations for the 18th annual Drive For Food benefiting the Salvation Army food pantry.

The date for the drive is Oct. 3, and Salvation Army Capt. Deb Thompson says shelves are getting bare in a hurry. She joined KVOE's 7:05 am newscast Wednesday with an update:

Thompson says demand increased as the summer progressed, with over 100 residents served in June and almost 150 residents in July. Demand has also increased throughout the course of the drive itself. For several years, donated food -- in many cases over 30,000 pounds worth or more -- would last through Valentine's Day or even as far out as early March. Now Thompson is looking for the donated food to help residents through the end of the year.

To donate, call KVOE at 342-1400 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your address.
