Many people have concerns about what Halloween will look like during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Emporia Main Street has found a way to give a semblance of normalcy during these crazy times.

On October 31 Emporia Main Street will be hosting a trick or treat event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Community Impact Manager, Jessica Buchholz, says this is a great opportunity for not only the citizens but businesses as well.

Safety still remains at the top of the priority list for the event. Wearing of masks will be required at all times while in attendance. Social distancing is also required. During the event, directional arrows will be placed on the sidewalk to encourage a singular direction of traffic. There will also be the use of so-called "candy chutes" to hand out candy. These chutes will allow businesses to deliver candy without having any contact with trick or treaters. Main Street also encourages attendees to wait until they get home before consuming any candy as masks are required at all times.

Haunted tours, meanwhile, will not be held this year.

For more information contact Emporia Main Street at 620-340-6430. Businesses wanting to be involved need to let Main Street know by Oct. 23.
