Public Works Director Dean Grant says a 12-inch line developed a hole in the middle of West Sixth at the Elm Street intersection Wednesday afternoon.

The area is part of a construction zone as the city replaces the water line along Elm from Sixth north to Newman Regional Health. Grant says the affected line was old and not set for replacement just yet.

Eastbound and westbound traffic is constricted to one lane around the work zone until further notice.
