Patrick Mahomes joins Kansas City Royals ownership group Featured

(royals) The Kansas City Royals announced Tuesday that Patrick Mahomes -- the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs and reigning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player -- now is part owner of the Royals.

John Sherman, the team chairman, CEO and principal owner made the announcement. “We are very proud and excited to have Patrick as our partner in the ownership group of this franchise. Along with the rest of Kansas City, I have watched Patrick compete and become an extraordinary leader, both on and off the football field.

“Consistent with the entirety of our ownership group, he has a deep commitment to Kansas City and a real passion for the game of baseball -- dating back to his childhood.”

“I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” said Mahomes, who once was a promising amateur baseball player as both a pitcher and hitter before he turned his attention to football and became the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas Tech. “I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”

The youngest owner in sports history, the 24-year-old Mahomes continues to add to his already impressive resume, which also includes winning the 2018 NFL MVP after throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns -- tied for second most in a single season in the league’s history.
