Madison Burlingame split on Area Game of the Week Tuesday Featured

Madison and Burlingame traded wins Tuesday night in area high school basketball action.

In the girl's half of action, solid defense led the Burlingame Lady Bearcats to a dominating 63-27 victory over the Madison Lady Bulldogs.

Burlingame would capitalize on 17 turnovers in the first half to build a 38-12 lead heading into the locker room. In the second half, Burlingame would manage to outscore Madison 35-18 en route to their fifth win of the season.

Burlingame had three players end the night in double digits. Freshman Kaylin Noonan led all scorers with 20 points. Seniors Megan Giffin and Emmy Punches both had 14 points on the night.

Head Coach Jeff Slater says they handled their business on both sides of the ball.

 

Madison was led in scoring by sophomore transfer Sarah Miser with 15 points.

Burlingame now improves to 5-1 on the season as Madison drops to 4-3.

In the boy's game, Madison managed to bounce back after letting an early lead slip away to outlast Burlingame 51-46.

Madison jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter leading by as many as seven at one time, however, Burlingame would manage to cut the lead to three trailing 11-8 heading into the second. A 9-0 run in the second quarter would give Burlingame its first and only lead of the night as they led 20-18 at the half.

In the third quarter, Burlingame would manage to stretch the lead to as many as five before Madison would use a 6-0 run early in the fourth quarter to retake the lead for good. Burlingame came as close as one to tying the game late in the fourth but could not overtake the Bulldog lead as Madison would hold on and remain unbeaten on the season.

Madison was led in scoring by senior Chase Harrison with 15 points. Two other Bulldogs ended the night in double digits.

Senior Kelton Buettner had 13 points and senior Hunter Engle added 10.

Head Coach Brett Dannels says this was their toughest test so far and its only going to get tougher.

 

Lance Noonan led Burlingame with 17 points on the night.

With the win, Madison improves to 7-0 as Burlingame falls to 2-3.
