Independent gubernatorial candidate Greg Orman was a guest lecturer at Emporia State University Thursday afternoon.
Orman spoke with students of Dr. John Barnett’s social sciences class in the Sauder Alumni Center during a stop on his campaign trail. Orman covered a wide range of topics, including intellectual conflict and exchanging ideas with individuals who hold differing opinions on social issues.
Orman spoke with KVOE before his lecture and shared why he feels he is the best candidate for the Governor position.
Orman is an accomplished businessman in the private sector which he believes is a major advantage in the gubernatorial race.
Orman is pitted against Democrat Laura Kelly and Republican Secretary of State Kris Kobach. Recently Kelly has received endorsements by two prominent Kansas republicans former U.S. Senator Nancy Kassebaum and former Kansas Governor Bill Graves. When asked for his thoughts on the endorsements Orman was relatively unphased.
Orman added a major advantage of running as an independent candidate is that he is not obligated to select cabinet members from pools of politically loyal Democrats or Republicans. He says having a wider selection of individuals allows for intellectual conflict and the ability to dissect a problem or issue from multiple angles.
ESU has reached out to all three gubernatorial candidates. Laura Kelly is expected to make an appearance in October. So far there has been no response from the Kobach campaign.
