Planning continues for two new programs under development at Flint Hills Technical College.
On KVOE’s Tech Talk on Tuesday, College President Caron Daugherty divulged early plans for a new early childhood education program. This could well involve licensing, certifications and academic resources for potential child care providers, along with internships and clinical opportunities for students both at Flint Hills Technical College and Emporia State University. Daugherty says the college is working to alleviate a major need for daycare providers.
Meanwhile, the college’s Board of Trustees recently approved an e-sports competitive gaming program. Daugherty says this is being considered the college’s first foray into athletics, albeit one that’s not traditional.
Both programs have tentative funding support from the city, with the city setting aside $100,000 for the competitive gaming program and over $60,000 for the early childhood program. The early plan was to start the e-sports program this fall, although that may be shelved, depending on additional funding requests. At this time, the early childhood center program could start by July 2023.
