The Kansas Department of Corrections and Kansas Bureau of Investigation have unveiled a set of playing cards with a serious purpose — solving unresolved crimes, including cold cases for homicides and missing residents.
Each card has a summary of an unsolved crime as well as an information number, 800-KS-CRIME, to call if people have information about the crimes as detailed. These decks of playing cards are currently not available to the public. Instead, they will be in prisons and county jails, replacing other decks of standard playing cards in dayrooms, commons areas and commissaries.
There is one Osage County case involving Anna Baldwin, whose body was found at the Turkey Point recreation of Melvern Lake on Aug. 25, 2017 after she had been shot. Baldwin is the 6 of Hearts in the deck.
All told, the deck highlights 59 cases, with most involving unsolved homicides. The oldest case dates back to 1976, with the most recent case in the deck dating to 2020.
The Department of Corrections and KBI are partnering with the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police, Kansas Sheriff’s Association and Kansas Peace Officers Association to develop this informational card deck. Residents with information about Baldwin’s case specifically or the others on the list are encouraged to call the KBI at 800-KS-CRIME.
