Preliminary conversations have begun for USD 252 Southern Lyon County regarding alternative transportation options.
During the USD 252 Board of Education’s monthly meeting Monday, board members began exploring grant opportunities that could result in the purchase of electric buses for the district. Superintendent Mike Argabright says exploration of the new transportation options would provide both environmental and economical benefits to the district.
The discussions are still in the very early stages according to Argabright with the district still researching what the annual costs of operation for electric buses could be. Early discussions are also underway for the potential construction of a new fitness park in Olpe.
Argabright says there are no exact plans in place for the full scope of said park as the district is still currently working to form a committee to oversee that project. He says the committee would be comprised of Olpe patrons including district representatives and residents.
Conversations on both topics are likely to continue well into the upcoming school year.
