The City of Emporia’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show is coming to the Emporia State University campus Sunday evening.
The show is scheduled to begin between 9:45 and 10 pm with the display set to be shot from the soccer fields north of Interstate 35. The soccer pitch on the north end of campus will be closed to the public, but the practice fields on the north side of campus and Welch Stadium will be open and are considered the best viewing points for the show.
Pyrotechnician Bernie Toso, a recent guest of KVOE’s Newsmaker segment, will once again be overseeing the show. Toso says this year’s show will see right around 900 fireworks light up the night sky.
Blankets will be permitted on Jones Field but chairs will not. Sunflower seeds and gum are also prohibited on both Jones Field and Witten Track. Handicapped parking will be set up at the two parking lots across Highland Street from the art annex.
Tailgating will be available in the university parking lots beginning at 7 pm. Alcohol, glass containers and personal fireworks are all prohibited.
Toso says the fireworks display will last between 25 to 35 minutes.
