Colder weather is here meaning energy usage, and more importantly, energy costs, are set to increase.
With that in mind, the Kansas Gas Service is offering some helpful tips to keep you warm without breaking the bank. Residents are encouraged to set their water heater to the “warm setting” of 120 degrees. Homeowners should also set their water heaters to the pilot position if planning to be away from home for more than two days.
Weatherstripping and caulking are also encouraged to seal cracks and keep the heat inside your home. If you are planning to be away from home for four hours or more you should decrease your thermostat temperature by five to 10 degrees.
Regular cleaning of the filters in your air conditioning and heating units can help to lower energy consumption by five to 15 percent. Additionally, residents are encouraged to enroll in the Kansas Gas Services’ average payment plan program which reduces the volatility of seasonal energy costs by spreading a resident’s cost over 12 months based on a rolling bill average.
