Colorado law enforcement is now investigating the deaths of two missing Emporia women.
According to Emporia Police Captain Lisa Hayes, the bodies of 44-year-old Linda Estrada and 39-year-old Amy Ford were found in rural eastern Colorado Wednesday afternoon. An investigation to the whereabouts of both women began Monday, September 11 after a family member of Estrada reported her as missing.
EPD discovered over the course of the investigation that both women had been together in Colorado the prior weekend with Ford being reported missing shortly after the investigation was launched. Local authorities spent 10 days searching for the women while Colorado authorities spent five days searching with the use of K9s, airplanes, drones and ground searches.
Authorities have not said whether foul play is suspected in the case, however, in a news release Hayes notes that a “person of interest to the case is in custody on charges not related to this specific investigation.”
Emporia Police will not release the individual’s name and additional details as the investigation has been turned over to an eastern Colorado Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
