Flint Hills Technical College’s newest program is off to a great start according to President Dr. Caron Daugherty.
During the most recent installment of KVOE’s Tech Talk Tuesday morning, Daugherty provided an update on the college’s new Early Childhood Education program which launched this past fall. Daugherty says there are currently six to seven students enrolled in the program which she found very encouraging given it is a first-year program.
During her interview, Daugherty took time to thank the city of Emporia for its support of the program from a financial standpoint.
The program offers both a certificate and associate of applied sciences tract with those seeking their certificate wrapping up this spring and those seeking their associates continuing for one more year. A new cohort of students will join the program in the fall.
Daugherty says the program was developed to help address the ever-rising need for qualified childcare providers that has been significant nationwide in recent years. Daugherty says creating programs to help address prevalent community needs has always been a major goal for FHTC and the technical education field as a whole.
FHTC will begin the spring semester next Tuesday, January 16.
