Probation was the sentence handed down Tuesday for a local teen found guilty of two separate cases of arson from earlier this year.
During a sentencing hearing in Lyon County District Court, 17-year-old Justin Hines received six months probation with a maximum case length of 12 months. Hines was also ordered to pay various court and legal fees, a $200 DNA collection fee to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and restitution, the amount of which will be determined during a hearing on April 30 at 2 pm.
In February, Hines pleaded no contest to and was later found guilty of two counts of arson after fires were set Jan. 17 and Jan. 22 heavily damaging Moore’s Greenhouse outside Guion’s Showcase at 2023 West Sixth. The second fire also caused exterior damage to the northwest corner of the Guion’s Building. There were no reported injuries with either incident.
