When the city of Emporia renovates and repaints the East 12th Avenue water storage tank near Dillons, the vast majority of people responding in the latest KVOE News online poll want the city to highlight military veterans on that space.
KVOE News offered several options for a new paint scheme as part of a weeklong poll that concluded Friday afternoon. In order of votes:
*The Founding City of Veterans Day got 63 percent or 300 votes
*The city of Emporia had 14 percent or 67 votes
*Emporia State and Flint Hills Technical College got 10 percent or 46 votes
*Front Porch of the Flint Hills had 7 percent or 32 votes
*Disc golf had 3 percent or 12 votes
*Gravel cycling had 1 percent or 6 votes.
The “other” category only had 2 percent or 10 votes, but there were nearly 15 readily-identifiable suggestions posted on Facebook@kvoenews, with 8 suggesting the water tower paint scheme be left as is and single votes for an American flag, the National Teachers Hall of Fame, a broken water main and other suggestions that likely won’t be considered by the city.
Over 470 votes were tabulated. City commissioners are set to field three options for the new water tower design later this month.
