Construction is moving along at Hetlinger Developmental Services.
In fact, Hetlinger’s newest addition, the Planting Hope greenhouse, is just about complete. Director Trudy Hutchinson says the greenhouse has been seen as a way to expand the activity list for Hetlinger clients.
Hutchinson says there have been some supply chain issues that have delayed certain aspects of construction, but just a handful of items remain before work is finished. A learning and life skills kitchen is part of the project, and part of the courtyard is being converted into an indoor multipurpose room.
Hutchinson says horticultural therapy helps with a range of life skills, and the goal with this new 2,100-square-foot greenhouse is to help clients create something meaningful. Plans will be finalized once Hetlinger hires a horticulturist to lead the program, but initial thoughts are wildflowers, transplantable vegetables and other plants could be grown inside.
