Emporia city commissioners have loaded the agenda for their final meeting of the calendar year.
Commissioners will start their meeting Wednesday with a public hearing to amend the 2022 budget, followed by an ordinance to take that step with the library, bond and interest, water and wastewater funds all projected to go above their adopted budget amounts.
Commissioners could also formally apply for a Commercial Building Rehabilitation grant on behalf of local developer Rick Mitchell, who is planning a mixed-use development at the former Emporia Gazette building at 517 Merchant.
Two matters involving the Emporia Public Library — one being the annual maintenance contract, the other being entrance bids — are set for action.
Commissioners could also approve a rezoning request at 748 West Fourth from R-1 Low-Density Residential to I-1 Light Industrial, as well as a minor plat for the Kwik Shop Addition at 12th and Merchant and separate engineering construction agreements for two large-scale housing projects — the Kretsinger Subdivision near the David Traylor Zoo and the Mahtropolis Subdivision near the Trusler Sports Complex.
On top of all those items, the City Commission could pass a resolution to create a task force on homelessness. If approved, the task force will study an apparently growing issue of “unhoused individuals” locally and make recommendations to the city.
The meeting starts at 11 am at the Municipal Court Room.
