Improvements continue in east Emporia as part of a major waterline replacement project.
Besides the installation of more pipe as part of the Peyton Street project, improvements are also coming to travel — at least for the north end of the project, which now has northbound and southbound traffic available on Peyton between Ninth and 12th. Traffic remains southbound-only for Peyton between Sixth and Ninth. Traffic is eastbound-only for South Avenue between Peyton and the southeast Emporia water tower near Carter Street.
Besides replacing old pipe, this project is designed to solidify water service for southeast Emporia, which currently has the city’s heaviest water use. Work should be done by spring.
