Emporia Recreation Commission members had a lot to discuss during their regular meeting Monday evening.
Among the talking points was an update on the ERC steering committee and their recent pre-submission meetings with local architects and construction manager at risk firms for a potentially updated or new rec center. Committee members have requested all interested firms submit any further questions about the project by Tuesday for committee review at its next regular meeting Tuesday evening.
According to Assistant Director of Rec Operations Amanda Gutierrez, more than 20 architecture firms and 11 CMARs attended the pre-submission conferences last week.
This was all part of the Request for Qualifications process for the rec center project with RFQs due to the committee by April 29. Separately, the ERC also discussed a recent cleaning project for air ducts in the Lee Beran Recreation Center’s gym and indoor pool as well as non-resident fees.
There were no changes to the non-resident fee structure as the item is a routine housekeeping matter.
Commissioners also approved the 2024 Jones Aquatic Center management agreement for the 2024 swim season with the city of Emporia. The only change in the agreement from the 2023 season is the request for financial support from the city.
The ERC is seeking $96,000 from the city which is a $2,000 increase from the 2023 season. Those dollars are used to help cover needed expenses including payroll for JAC staff and chemical and supply costs.
The agreement will next go to city commissioners for final approval at a later date, possibly in early May. The ERC will next convene for its monthly meeting on May 20th at 5:30 pm inside of the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
