Trial is set to begin next week in an Emporia rape case.
Dominik Simunovic was set for trial to begin Monday following a status hearing this week. Jury selection will begin shortly after 9 am, with opening arguments and the start of testimony to follow. Judge Jeff Larson is presiding.
Simunovic, a former Emporia State tennis player from Croatia, is charged with single counts of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy after an alleged incident in downtown Emporia this past October. Both counts have alternates alleging the victim was incapable of giving consent due to the presence of alcohol, drugs or other substances. Simunovic says activity was consensual.
Trial could last through Wednesday.
