Emporia Fire and local law enforcement agencies have been dealing with overlapping emergency calls Tuesday morning.
Shortly after 7:30 am, firefighters were dispatched to the junction of Interstate 35 and East US Highway 50 for a semi fire. Early indications are the brakes caught fire for unspecified reasons.
About 10 minutes later, firefighters and Lyon County deputies responded to an injury accident call at Roads 220 and K involving a dump truck and pickup. At least one person was hurt.
Around 7:50 am, a second injury crash was reported at Ninth and Neosho, prompting a response from Emporia Fire and Emporia Police. A pickup and SUV apparently crashed at the intersection, sending both vehicles into a nearby yard. The number of potential patients is not immediately available.
