An apparent medical issue led to a crash in downtown Emporia on Saturday afternoon.
Emporia Police and Emporia Fire/EMS responded to Eighth and Commercial shortly after 4 pm. Police Officer Jaffar Agha says the driver was eastbound on Eighth when the medical issue apparently developed when an SUV approached Commercial Street. The vehicle slid off Eighth into a parking area just east of the intersection.
Agha says the driver did not have any injuries because of the wreck but was stuck inside the SUV. Emporia Police broke the driver’s side window and pulled him out.
The driver was taken to Newman Regional Health for observation. His name has not been released.
