A vehicle was destroyed, however, no one was harmed following a vehicle fire on Interstate 35 Monday evening.
According to Lyon County Deputy Colin Brozek, Emporia Police, Emporia Fire and Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies were called to I-35 mile marker 130 southbound just before 7:20 pm. Upon arrival, crews found a 2007 Chrysler Sebring fully engulfed in flames on the outside shoulder.
According to Brozek, the driver, identified as 22-year-old Leilani Drennan, stated the vehicle began to decelerate and lost power. Drennan says they observed smoking coming from the vehicle’s hood and exited the vehicle before the vehicle caught fire.
Neither Drennan nor a passenger 13-year-old Samantha Drennan were injured. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
