4 Royals Voted starters for All-Star game

The Kansas City Royals have a franchise high 4 players voted in as starters for the All-Star game. Salvador Perez will start at catcher, Alcides Escobar will start at shortstop. Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon will start in the outfield. The Royals could have more players selected for the All-Star game, the reserves and pitchers will be announced Monday.

Team USA/Kansas 2-0 at World Games

Team USA/Kansas basketball team is 2-0 at the World University games after defeating Brazil 81-72 Sunday. Team USA out scored Brazil 28-15 in the second quarter and never looked back. Wayne Selden led the way with 23 points, Frank Mason added 15, Hunter Mickelson 11 and Jamari Traylor 10. Team USA/Kansas will next play Chile in a game that will tip-of at 12:30am Tuesday Central Time. This game will not be televised.

Earnhart wins Coke Zero 400

It was a long night for NASCAR drivers on Sunday night — a very long night that was capped with a very scary crash. After waiting out a lengthy rain delay, the Sprint Cup Series staged its Coke Zero 400 into the early morning hours at Daytona International Speedway. Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the race. Jimmie Johnson was second, followed by Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch. Clint Bowyer finished in 10th place and moved up to 15th in the point standings.

Emporia A legion alters schedule

The Emporia Junior American Legion baseball team was scheduled to host Andover Central in a doubleheader Monday night, those games have been canceled. The JR legion goes to Wichita Tuesday to play the Andover Central and the Wichita Aviators. They will close out the final week of the regular season with a tournament at Junction City.

Team USA/Kansas to face Brazil in World Games

The USA National Team, consisting mainly of Kansas mens basketball player continue play in the World University Games when they play Brazil. Tip off is set for 8:30 p.m. in Korea and 6:30 a.m. in Kansas. The game will be televised on ESPNU and can also be viewed on the ESPN Watch app. The USA Team defeated Turkey 66-57 in its opening game on Saturday, July 4, while Brazil beat Chile 93-47 in its first game in Pool D play.
