The number 1 ranked Emporia State womens basketball team opened the season 72-63 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State Friday.
The Lady Hornets led by 14 in the first half and by as many as 21 in the second half before walking off the court with the 9 point win. Emporia State Coach Jory Collins was pleased with the defensive effort.

Kelly Moten led the way with a game high 19 points.

Kelsey Barnwell added 16 points, hitting 5 of 6 3 point shots. Addie Lackey finished with 11 points and Kyrstie Miller added 10 points. Kathryn Flott led Emporia State with 14 rebounds. The Emporia State women will play Oklahoma Baptist Saturday. Tipoff is set for Noon. The game will be broadcast on Country 101.7FM beginning at 11:40am.
