Southwest Baptist made 2 freethrows with 1.2 seconds to play to earn a 78-76 win over the Emporia State men Thursday night.
Stephaun Limuel made 2 freethrows to tie the game at 76. A foul on Logan Hovey sent him to the freethrow line with 1.2 seconds to play. He made both and finished with a game high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Brandon Hall attempted a shot from halfcourt at the buzzer but came up short. Emporia State had built a 9 point lead in the first half but could not hang onto it and trailed 38-37 at halftime. In the 2nd half the Hornets trailed by 9 but would tie the score at 76 with 15 seconds to play. It was another frustrating finish for Coach Shaun Vandiver.
Stephaun Limuel led Emporia State with 17 points, Brian Morton added 15 points, Hassan Thomas 13 and Brandon Hall finished with 12 points. The Hornets fall to 9-17 for the season and 4-13 in the MIAA tournament. They next play next Thursday at Northeastern State.
