One Emporia High wrestler has advanced to the championship match at the 5A regional tournament in Valley Center.
Nilton Sandoval was the only Spartan of 6 to win his semi-final match. He won by a 8-2 decision.
Levi Buckridge at 113, Isaac Williams at 145, Hunter Williams at 152, Anthony Delgado at 160, and Jose Ultreres at 220 were defeated in the semi-finals.
Coach Dustin Malone said there were several good wins on day 1.
6 more Spartans will be wrestling in the consolation quarterfinals Trey Simons, Steven Garcia, Isaac Huber, Drew Baker, Whit Hall and Dalton Leek. They need to win their first match of the day to advance to state. The 6 that wrestled in the semi-finals have already earned a spot at State. Saturdays matches begin at 9am. There will be updates throughout the day on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.

Hunter Williams won his first round match in 3 seconds which could be a new national record.
Anthony Delgado earned his 100th career win with his first round win.
