The redshirt senior countered a take down attempt midway through the third period and turned it into a take down to lock up a 3-1 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo’s JaVaughn Perkins. Torres is the first NCAA national champion in any sport for Newman.
Torres won a state title for Emporia High in 2013 at 160 pounds.
