The Kansas City Royals will be without Salvador Perez for 4-6 weeks. He is out with a MCL tear.
He slipped while carrying his luggage Tuesday at home.
Manager Ned Yost also announced the injury Wednesday.
Ned Yost announced his Opening Day lineup for Thursday against the White Sox. Drew Butera will start in his place, the first time Salvy will miss Opening Day since 2012, when Brayan Pena started in his place when Salvy missed the beginning of the season with a knee injury.
Alex Gordon will begin the year in centerfield. Jon Jay starts in left with Jorge Soler in right.
