Changes to federal tax reform and updates to digital marketing were both highlighted at Friday’s meeting of the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas.
RDA President Kent Heermann is targeting a May launch for the new website and says it will be a valuable tool as they work to enhance digital marketing efforts.
Separately, Heermann also discussed how changes to the federal tax law are impacting the Emporia area. Among the notable changes are in performance-based incentives, in particular, real-estate incentives like free land which are taxable now and weren’t prior to the law change.
In addition, Heermann says southeast Emporia has been identified by Gov. Jeff Colyer as an opportunity zone which may open up further incentives to businesses that want to open or expand there. But he says there are still some unknowns.
The RDA’s next meeting is scheduled for May 11.
