Mention the name Columbine High School to somebody on the street, and they may be able to tell you where they were when that horrific school shooting happened. Mention Columbine to Larry Scott, and he can tell you in vivid detail about his niece, Rachel Scott — the first victim of the Columbine attack that killed 15 people.
Larry Scott brought Rachel’s Challenge to Emporia State University on Wednesday night. The organization is designed to inspire people to replace violence and bullying with acts of respect and compassion. He tells KVOE News that would follow exactly in his niece’s footsteps.
Larry Scott says his two children were also at the school at the time of the shooting. He called Columbine a worldwide tragedy.
Larry Scott says Rachel’s Challenge now reaches over 1 million students a year across America and has also now made presentations in 14 countries. The nonprofit has developed curriculum and training so students can take Rachel Scott’s lead in how they deal with others.
