A month after a boil water advisory impacted Emporia and the rest of Lyon County, a draft report outlining what happened is currently under review.
Public Works officials wrote the report after a valve didn’t shut properly the night of March 15. Because of that issue, turbidity — or abnormal levels of cloudiness — developed at the plant, causing an increased risk of bacterial contamination.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued the advisory March 16, lifting it March 18 after water samples showed no actual contamination.
The City Attorney’s Office is reviewing the document. At this time, there is no word of any findings or recommendations for potential changes in operations. There’s also no official word on when the review will be completed.
