The Emporia Symphony Orchestra had a grand time at Albert Taylor Hall Tuesday.
The community orchestra performed their grand finale concert at Albert Taylor Hall and honored the 50th anniversary of a partnership between Paraguay and Kansas. The evening began with performances of Paraguayan compositions, including “Rapsodia Paraguaya.”
The piece was written by Paraguayan composer Remberto Gimenez in the 1950s. The original manuscript went missing in 1958 in Germany and was thought to be lost. Eventually, the piece was found by ESO conductor Ramiro Miranda. Those in attendance were just the third audience to hear the composition played since 1958.
ESO also performed an original piece by Daniel Luzko, a Professor in Musical Composition at Irvine Valley College in California, titled “Colossal” which details Luzko’s journey from his native Paraguay to the United States.
The next scheduled event for the ESU Music Department is the ESU Jazz Ensembles concert Thursday at Albert Taylor Hall.
