Close to 20 pets were rescued after fire developed in a doghouse and then transitioned to a nearby home.
Firefighters were called out to 417 South Union after a reported structure fire shortly before 9:45 am. Originally, the call was for a house fire, but Fire Capt. Tony Fuller says the situation was a bit more complicated than that.
There was about six to eight inches of space between the dwellings. Fuller says fire crews made sure all people were safe before putting water on the fire and then checking for pets. Fuller says there were at least 15 cats and a dog inside the actual house.
All were retrieved and appear none the worse for wear.
The cause is under investigation. Lyon County records show the house is owned by Jerry Harris, Troy Jones and Donna Dillon.
