Notable water line projects continue in Emporia.
In fact, when it comes to three projects underway at the same time, one is wrapping up, one is just starting and one could continue through the end of the year.
The line replacement project at 18th and Prairie may well come to an end Tuesday — at least for the construction part. Public Works Director Frank Abart:
The construction site was actually a former water station or tower decades ago, and valves underground used to leak constantly. Abart says this project will let the city have better control over water in that area in case of a major water main break like the one last summer at 15th and Prairie.
Starting Tuesday, meanwhile, is a water line replacement at Twin Lakes Drive near Twin Lakes Court in northwest Emporia.
With house construction ongoing for over a year as the Hidden Vistas subdivision fills in, Abart said the city took a proactive approach.
Also, Abart says work has been ongoing for several weeks near the intersections of US Highway 50, Sixth and Prairie. One line has already been installed, and Abart says one or possibly two more lines could be added by year’s end to improve the water system in that part of west Emporia.
