Emporia State students and the public are planning a march and rally for sensible gun reform Friday morning on campus.
The newly formed Students Demand Action organization is hosting the event to mark the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting in Colorado. Vice President Tori White, a junior elementary education major explains the mission of the young organization.
White attended Millard South High School in Omaha, Nebraska in the months after a school shooting there in 2011. She says Friday’s rally and march are important to begin a dialogue on an important issue.
Friday’s rally begins at 9:30 a.m. in Union Square and will feature student speakers, voter registration, poster making and t-shirts. The march on campus begins at 10:15 a.m. and will end at the Memorial to Fallen Educators. The event is being completely student led and is not endorsed by the National Teacher’s Hall of Fame.
