Emporia State students continued the fight against gun violence with a special march on campus.
Organized by Students Demand Action, the march took place Friday inside the Union Square on the ESU campus. Students and community members joined with SDA to create signs and lend aid in the call for change. The march honored the memories of those who have lost their lives to gun violence and commemorated the 19 year anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting.
Participants marched from the Union Square across campus and concluded at the Memorial to Fallen Educators, where organizers shared their stories and reflections on gun violence. One of these individuals was ESU student and SDA member Tori White who believes her generation has the power to finally create change.
Also in attendance was SDA member Samantha Inscore who says as an education major the debate on gun control is one that will always be a serious issue in her life.
Along with SDA were representatives of Moms Demand Action, the League of Women Voters and Beacon for Hope. Participants could also register to vote during the event. The ceremony concluded with a balloon release for those who have died due to gun violence and a reading of victims names. For more information on how you can get involved text students to 644-33.
