Thomas Silkman’s attempt Friday to enter the Guinness Book of World Records will undergo a formal review process. However, Silkman’s effort to set a record for restringing guitars easily surpassed the official mark set almost a decade ago.
In an event at Flint Hills Music, Silkman reset 226 guitar strings, the equivalent of nearly 38 six-string guitars. He says the process went about as smoothly as he could’ve hoped.
Silkman explains how he learned about this record.
The existing record is 183, or the equivalent of 30.5 guitars, done by Glenn Haworth of Australia in 2009. The current record was set in one hour. Silkman passed that mark in less than 50 minutes. He restrung several Les Paul-style guitars for consistency.
Guinness has not said when it plans to verify Silkman’s effort, although it can take up to 12 weeks for an official announcement.
