KVOE’s Roger Hartsook Interview was bursting at the seams Thursday — and with good reason.
The St. Patrick’s Committee held its now-annual check presentation event on KVOE’s airwaves. Fundraising earlier generated better than $30,000 for 19 different community groups.
The Neosho Valley Shrine received $2,000. Spokesman Bill Douglas says the money helps kids attend the annual Shrine Circus in Topeka.
The donation to the Wade Barrett Memorial Fund is $3,000. Gail Barrett says the money benefits the fund’s ongoing battle against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
The North Lyon County Veterans Memorial picked up $1,000. Spokesperson Dianne Bednar-Smith says major work is coming to the memorial with three stones to be installed.
FEAS, the Friends of the Emporia Animal Shelter, picked up a check for $2,500. Spokesperson Deb Ghere says the animals will be treated to a music system in part because of the donation.
Team Schnak Strong Fund received $1,000. Fund organizer Kent Schankenberg:
The Emporia Baseball Club’s tally was $1,000. Spokesperson Deidra Baunwart says this will help the club host the 2018 AAA State Baseball Tournament.
Shiloh Home of Hope received $1,040. Director Carol Alderman discussed the group’s mission.
Newman Regional Health got $1,000 for the Teddy Bear Clinic. Spokesperson McKenzie Cinelli says the recent event was heavily attended.
For Quest Services, the total was $2,000. Spokesperson Yvonne Gardner:
The What’s In Outdoors Fund picked up $2,500. Spokesman Phil Taunton:
Emporia Child Care gained nearly $1,000. Director Deb Crowl says this money will help at the preschool site.
USD 253 Transitions picked up $750. Kari Wallace says this funds the prom coming up this weekend as well as garden equipment.
Logan Avenue Library obtained $1,500 for a MakerSpace, according to librarian Cheryl Wagner.
Southern Lyon County Early Childhood Center received $1,200. Spokesperson Amy Farr:
Read to Your Bunny got $150. Janice Romeiser was thankful.
USD 252 Honor Flight gained $2,500. Organizer Bethany Thomas explained the trip and the bonds that develop between students and veterans.
SOS received $500. Spokesperson Shayla Daniels says kids using SOS services will have brighter days because of the money.
Big Brothers Big Sisters also received $505.
Committee member Trey Sommers thanked the community for helping the fundraising effort be a success.
Committee member Barb Ternes-Lowery says the historical fundraising total keeps climbing.
Fundraising took a major step forward with a record auction in late February and finished strong with the Leprechaun Dash, sales of various items and the annual raffle. In all, better than $30,000 was generated for the 19 groups this year.
