Sunday is filled with activities in Emporia aimed at both helping others and helping the planet.
The inaugural Beacon For Hope Suicide Prevention tattoo fundraiser is happening Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Maud’s Tattoo Company, 720 Commercial Street. On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia Friday, Beacon for Hope Executive Director Melissa Kurtenbach said some of the designs to choose from are symbolic.
There are a total of 24 different designs. The cost is $60 and tattoos will only be done on arms and legs. Tips are also being accepted with all proceeds benefiting suicide prevention training.
Also on Sunday, the David Traylor Zoo is celebrating Earth Day with Party for the Planet. Outreach Coordinator Michelle Sagers describes some of the activities that will be happening.
In the zoo education center, kids can use bottlecaps to make animal magnets and they can also take the plastic reduction pledge. The Party for the Planet will take place Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.
