The Kansas City Royals split a doubleheader with Detroit Friday. Detroit won game 1 3-2 in 10 innings. The Royals won the second game 3-2.
In game 1 Jacoby Jones hit a Walk-off homerun in the 10th to win the game for the Tigers. Detroit scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Mike Moustaks hit his 5th homerun of the season in the 6th. The Royals tied the game in the 7th when Alcides Escobar scored on a Jon Jay single. Jason Hammel pitched 9 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts.
In the second game the Royals scored 2 runs in the top of the 9th. Ryan Goins and Alcides Escobar singled before Abraham Almonte hit a bloop single to score Goins. Escobar would score on a throwing error. Jakob Junis was the winning pitcher going 8 innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. Kelvin Herrera earned the save. The Royals and Tigers play again this afternoon with first pitch at 12:10. Danny Duffy will be on the mound for the Royals.
