A little rain didn’t stop community members from supporting local students this weekend.
The 2018 Spring Fling 5K took place at Emporia Middle School Saturday morning. Entry for the event were donations of hygiene and food supplies for Emporia High’s Spartan Stop. Spartan Stop is a private pantry that supports students living on their own without family support.
Event organizer Jana Phillips says these events are vital to keep the Stop’s shelves filled for students.
Phillips says it is also important to her to promote healthy lifestyles by providing the community with free 5K opportunities.
The 99 participants had the option to walk or run the designated route outdoors, or an indoor path inside the building. Totals from the event will be announced at a later time. If you would like more information on Spartan Stop or how to donate contact Emporia High School at 620-341-2365.
