OLPE — Family, friends and well-wishers crowded near the entrance of Olpe Junior-Senior High School at 1:30 am Tuesday to send off the latest USD 252 Southern Lyon County Honor Flight trip.
Led by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Olpe Fire and the Patriot Guard Riders, the group also made a short stop at Emporia’s American Legion Post No. 5 before heading to Kansas City International.
Twenty-five veterans officially are heading to our nation’s capital to see various memorials, landmarks and different points of interest in and near Washington, D.C. In all, nearly 60 people — veterans, students and faculty — are making the trip.
This year’s Honor Flight returns home Wednesday night.
