The Emporia High baseball team split a doubleheader with Manhattan. Emporia High won the first game 8-5. Manhattan won the 2nd game 6-3.
In the first game Emporia High scored 2 runs in the first inning. Manhattan scored 4 runs in the 2nd to take a 4-2 lead. The Spartan scored 3 runs in the 5th to take a 5-4 lead. Manhattan tied the game in the bottom of the 5th. Emporia High answered with a run in the 6th inning and added 2 more runs in the 7th. Hayden Baumwart, Beau Baumgardner and Sawyer Slayden were each 2 for 3. John Miller was 2 for 4 at the plate. Hayden Baumwart was the winning pitcher, going all 7 innings giving up 5 runs on 9 hits with 3 strikeouts.
In the 2nd game Emporia High jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 2 runs in the 2nd and a run in the 3rd. Manhattan scored 4 runs in the 4th and 2 runs in the 6th to earn the win.
The Spartans host Shawnee Heights Friday.
