They have come from far and wide to participate in the Glass Blown Open. Play begins Thursday, and hundreds of players lined up in the rain downtown to check in and finalize their tourney preparations.
Tourney organizer Jeremy Rusco tells KVOE News the excitement among the players is tangible.
In addition to the players from almost all 50 states and several foreign countries, there is a wide array of support staff in Emporia for the tournament. Seth Munsey, a strength and conditioning coach with Disc Golf Strong, says there is a lot of athleticism involved in disc golf. As a result, there’s a lot that can go wrong with a player’s body.
Player check-in continues until 5 pm and resumes at 9 am Thursday.
Meanwhile, opening activities begin at 6:30 pm Wednesday at White Auditorium, including a chance to meet company owners, a Q&A session with touring professionals, player and spotter meetings and a signature session.
Rusco will join KVOE’s 8:05 am newscast Thursday to talk about the formal start of the tournament and upcoming activities, including the Swedish bonfire at the Fairgrounds on Friday and the block party in downtown Emporia on Saturday.
