Relay for Life of the Flint Hills had its annual kickoff lunch Wednesday afternoon to get participants and coordinators excited for the main event this fall.
The special lunch hosted patients, survivors and volunteers at the Emporia Central Care Cancer Center. The lunch allows for those involved to sit down, converse and share a meal together, something that cancer survivor and event spokesperson Cherie Crisp says it allows patients to develop and grow their support system.
Relay for Life will take place September 8th at the Bowyer Building. All proceeds from the event will benefit research for the American Cancer Society. Crisp says the research they have helped fund is helping create happy endings to cancer patient’s stories.
