Construction continues at the site of Newman Regional Health’s new emergency department.
Construction has slowed down somewhat because of recent rainfall, but contractors believe they can catch up when things dry out. Regardless, hospital CEO Bob Wright likes the progress he’s seeing.
Wright says the new facility will be “the premier emergency room in Kansas” when it’s finished in December. The overall footprint is nearly three times the size of the current emergency room. Wright says there will be 19 rooms, nearly double the current number of 10, and those rooms will be double the size of the existing rooms. Wright says there will be other features that help the emergency department stand out from other similar facilities across the state.
Wright thanked the Board of Trustees and Lyon County for finalizing the funding for the project, which should help Newman Regional Health handle the roughly five-percent growth rate in emergency traffic the past five years.
