TOPEKA — Lawmakers have a bit more time to fix errors in an education funding package before it’s reviewed by the Kansas Supreme Court.
On Wednesday, the court granted an extension to May 7 as lawmakers rewrite the better than $520 million funding package for K-12 education after an $80 million error was discovered shortly after passage. The original deadline was this upcoming Monday.
Lawmakers have been working hard on a funding plan after the court last fall said the state’s dollar amount was inadequate. Oral arguments are still scheduled for May 22, with a decision expected by June 30 — the end of the state’s fiscal year.
