OLPE — The spring 2018 Honor Flight for area veterans and USD 252 Southern Lyon County has returned home.
All involved called the two-day trip to Washington, D.C., and back a breathtaking experience, and veterans tell KVOE News they were grateful for the chance to be involved. Veteran Earl Wagner served in the Navy in the mid- and late 1950s.
World War II veteran David Quintana was also in the Navy, serving in Guadalcanal among other places.
Army veteran Dennis Paul says he’s glad his wife made the application so he could go. He also thanked organizers for making the opportunity possible.
Fellow Army veteran Richard Kaniper served in the late 1960s, including a stint in Vietnam.
For Honor Flight, students are paired with veterans as they visit a host of memorials and landmarks in and around our nation’s capital. Stops included the White House; Capitol; Roosevelt, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials; World War II, Korea and Vietnam Memorials; Holocaust Museum; and Arlington National Cemetery.
Planning is underway for a second Honor Flight trip this fall. For information or to help with fundraising, call the district at 620-392-5519 or go online to www.usd252.org.
