Craig Doty brings a national-championship pedigree to Emporia as head men’s basketball coach.
The 32-year-old Doty was formally introduced as Emporia State’s 17th head coach for men’s basketball during a news conference at Sauder Alumni Center on Friday. Doty says he’s excited to coach in the MIAA.
Doty brings a 162-50 overall record in six seasons as head coach. He led Rock Valley College to the National Junior College Division III title in 2014 and 2016, and he just guided Graceland University of Lamoni, Iowa, to the NAIA Division I national title earlier this spring. Five of Doty’s six teams have made it at least to the Elite Eight in their respective divisions.
Doty replaces Shaun Vandiver, who is leaving Emporia State after seven seasons and an 87-112 overall coaching record. Vandiver is returning to Wyoming as an assistant coach.
Emporia State was 9-19 this past season.
